What Is Financial Coaching?

Financial coaching is a service where you work closely with a coach to figure out and prepare for your money goals.

Who Is Financial Coaching For?

Financial coaching is for anyone who wants help with their money goals. It can also be a way to confirm the direction you’re already taking. Everyone has different goals, and there’s no single correct way to reach them. Let’s have a conversation!

What is The Process Like?

I could come up with a fancy acronym, but the short story is…it is a process, and it’s ongoing. There is no quick and easy way to have it all. Fortunately, there is a way to work hard, plan well, and reap the benefits. It might take a little work, but the process is simple. Are you ready for it? I am!

1. Discovery meeting.

You and I will have a conversation and get to know one another. During this time we will discuss your goals and concerns about your financial history and future.

2. The root of your financial concerns.

Some of us have it all figured out. Others need a nudge to get the answers and direction to secure their finances. We’ll ask some tough questions and determine what’s holding you back from the financial freedom you deserve.

3. The hard work.

Nothing is achieved without a little elbow grease.  Financial health is no exception. It will take work to dissect, analyze, and make the necessary changes to get where you want to be.

4. Review the progress.

You’ve done some deep digging into your finances and yourself to learn why you are where you are. Now is the time to look over your progress and see if your goals have changed, or if you are still on track.

5. Harmony awaits.

We have learned, we have worked hard, we have seen progress. Now we see if the financial health and harmony you seek are on the horizon. Once it is, sit back and enjoy – but don’t forget to keep it up!

About Me

I was born and raised in the Great Lakes Bay Region, and I’ve lived here my whole life. I graduated from CMU in 2007 with a degree in teaching high school. Finding a teaching job close to my area was hard because it was a tough time due to the recession. So, I explored different possibilities and expanded my horizons. Being open to new opportunities turned out to be the best decision I made! In 2008-2009, I began my career in finance as a licensed financial advisor. Since then, I’ve also worked as a bank manager and trust officer and organized large financial wellness programs for a local
credit union. Besides my practical experience, I’ve earned an MBA with a focus on finance from SVSU in addition to various other financial endorsements over the course of my career. With each role, I learned more about other people and the financial challenges they were dealing with.

As I coached others to learn and improve their skills, I discovered I have a strong passion and talent for this work. Even more importantly, I absolutely love it, and a sense of fulfillment comes from helping others achieve their goals. I realized that the best use of my experience is to spend
the rest of my career assisting others in gaining a solid understanding and control over something crucial for success—our personal finances!

I want to invite you to meet with me and discover more about financial coaching and how it could truly transform your life.

Why Financial Coaching?

There are many reasons why I have chosen to help others take control of their financial future. The biggest reason, however, is rooted in my own experience with financial difficulties. After high school, I knew I didn’t have the money to go to college, so I entered the workforce with a full-time job in a printing factory. Working on my feet for 12 hours a day, sometimes 60-80 hours a week, I knew I wanted something different but wasn’t sure how to get there.

With two children at the age of 24, I was facing the impending reality that I would have to become completely self-sufficient and would need to be able to raise my children on my own. Thankfully, hybrid classes at my local community college had just become available, and I was able to start with a full- load of classes. Through many years of living paycheck to paycheck and making do with what we had, I was fortunate enough to earn my associate’s degree and a full scholarship to Central Michigan University to finish out my bachelor’s degree. Although the scholarship covered most of the tuition at CMU; I needed to take out student loans to pay the difference for college and to pay for transportation needs, and daycare.

With quite a bit of grit and determination, I graduated from CMU in 2007 with an education degree, college debt, and a shrinking economy in Michigan. Unfortunately, teaching jobs were shrinking in my local area, and I didn’t want to move my children away from their families to work in another state. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to earn a position with a financial advising organization and started my career in finance. Not all those days were easy, but I was able to learn and grow in the world of personal finance while learning to balance my finances with the needs of my family. In each of my roles within the financial industry, my biggest regret was the inability to work more closely with people I knew I could help.

My ability to help individuals was limited in each role, with the need to fulfill other work responsibilities. I would help each person as much as possible and hope they learned enough to change their financial world. I often saw myself in the shoes of the person I was working with. I had been in their situation and knew how bleak and hopeless those days could get. Connecting with those people and sharing my story would often offer a glimpse of hope and encouragement that the impossible can become possible from a different point of view.

This is only part of the story as to why I wanted to become a financial coach, but rather than provide an entire accounting of my financial journey; I will say that I get a great amount of joy in helping people achieve their dreams. Whether it is getting out of debt, rebuilding your life after a divorce or job loss, or working toward that dream vacation or early retirement, I want to help you find the path to attain your dreams! I won’t promise that it will always be easy or that there is a magical solution, but I will promise that I will work my best to help you overcome obstacles and find clarity in the path toward your goals. If this is something you would be interested in learning more about, I invite you to schedule a 15-minute call with me to learn more!
